Tara — Yes, and carbon taxes have had electoral failures in the US, too, such as the failed Washington State initiatives. But things like women’s vote and civil rights were electoral poison in their day, too. If you have a good idea, you don’t give up on it, you work on it. Cause for hope: Sweden (also a democracy last time I checked) seems to have had some success with a carbon tax, according to reports.
